Therapeutic Services

Individual therapy is a one-on-one relationship between you and me
where we explore the nature of
your problem and work on bringing forth the insight and integration that
will provide relief and give you a new sense of self-mastery. Because we all habituate to anything pleasant—no matter what it is—it soon ceases to be effective for maintaining happiness. Individual therapy is the place where you can build a new kind relationship with yourself and your world, one that taps into the fundamental dynamism
of the human spirit so that you can
enjoy a fuller sense of connection
and purpose.

Relationship counseling can benefit all couples at any stage in a relationship:  whether you're wondering what happened to that early sense of excitement and fun or if you are looking to heal a current sense of woundedness, disconnection or distrust, relationship counseling might be right for you. Any problems that that emerge in relationships have causes that are understandable, and therefore resolvable. I want to help you create the relationship that you are looking for. As a therapist I am comfortable with any definition of relationship that you subscribe to.

Group therapy supports and nourishes each individual by tapping into the fascinating
and powerful stable of human social
emotions that can become rusty and stale
in this age of synthetic socializing
à la the "social media." As amazing as those technologies are they completely ignore  body language, vocal tone, and the living presence of everyone's personality. Group therapy, by contrast, is just the opposite—the undeniable physical reality of the experience provides a dynamic connection that can be therapeutic for people suffering from addictions and personality disorders. I offer group therapy sessions for people who are currently experiencing or have experienced disorienting anxiety, trauma, addiction, grief disorders, isolation, sexual abuse, or addiction to the internet.

Philosophy

Because human life is often difficult and messy, we recognize that people are more complex and dynamic than a simple diagnostic category can allow.
Our approach is person-centered and psychodynamic, informed by attachment theory and developmental neurophysiology, a humanistic model that includes aspects of systems theory, affective processing, and narrative, solutions-based thinking. It's an eclectic
multi-modal approach that will
be tailored to your needs. As your therapist, I will help you obtain the tools you need in order to become your best self.
We'll work together flexibly, in response to your own tempos and priorities, to forge an alliance where you can feel safe and secure in your own process.

Specialization

For the last five years I have worked primarily with people carrying
dual-diagnosis mental health issues involving addiction. Prior to that I worked with the chronically mentally ill, treating schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, chronic anxiety disorders,  and major depression.

I believe human beings are essentially social, story-telling animals, and that we perceive ourselves in the world through the lens of both conscious and unconscious "stories" that have
been developmentally woven into our nervous systems at various registers throughout our lifespans. These "stories" create an internal evaluative system that operates automatically, at times creating unbidden and unwieldy mood states, addictive compulsions or other unwanted behaviors.

We practice clinically proven strengths-based interventions to foster your individual growth.

Whether you're suffering from trouble in your marriage or relationships, anxiety or depression, a feeling of aimlessness, the pains of grief and loss, a lack of interest at work, or from the feeling that something just isn't right, we can help you restore yourself to the place of purposefulness and vitality, a place where your life once again becomes attractive and interesting to you.

"Therapy is a nourishing  mix
of working through stuck thoughts and troubled feelings with the goal of increasing one's capacities for joyfulness, productivity,  and connection

An opioid epidemic stat

"From 2000 to 2016, more than 600,000 people died from drug overdoses. On average, 115 Americans die every day from an
opioid overdose."
